UPDATE 12/2/2020: Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we've reduced the hike group size from 30 to less than 10 people and all slots are already filled at this time. We look forward to doing other night hikes through Garden of The Gods in the near future.
UPDATE 11/28/2020: This event is TBD but will likely transition to be a virtual online broadcast due to COVID-19 concerns. Best case is that the in-person outreach will be limited to 10 people but at this point it looks like we'll be setting up an online broadcast to talk about the Winter Solstice, take a virtual tour of the night sky using Planetarium software, and possibly show live views of the Moon and the spectacular Jupiter/Saturn conjunction.
Join the Garden of The Gods and the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society as we celebrate the Winter Solstice with a hike through the park. The Winter Solstice is the night that is the longest of the year which is great for astronomy. While on this 1.5 hour hike through the park you’ll learn a little more about what a “Solstice” is and its significance to culture and our observations of the stars. After the hike, we’ll have telescopes set up for viewing of the Moon and the Winter skies.
NOTE: This event requires a $5 registration fee with registration at the Garden of The Gods web site. https://gardenofgods.com/thing.....e-programs
