CSASTRO offers classes on astrophotography for individuals of all levels of expertise. Whether you are a novice or advanced imager, we offer courses that will help you develop your skills. We have two (2) groups that meet on different days once a month, in-person and virtually. Many of our students attend both the novice and advanced groups.

Novice Group Introductory and intermediate instruction on image capture and processing. Planetary, lunar, solar, deep sky (galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters) and nightscapes are covered in a rotating schedule. We support basic equipment and the course is built around affordable options. We use free software when practical and other low cost software such as Affinity Photo and Star Tools. Learn time and cost saving tips while producing fine images. Share your images in an encouraging environment. Our novice instructor is Barry Young. He has four (4) years astrophotography experience and an extensive background in technology.

General Group The General Group presents topics on intermediate to advanced imaging concepts. This includes process concepts, hardware and software integration, as well as theory and workflow topics to help you advance to the next step in your astrophotography adventure. This is the place where you can learn about camera and lens technology, narrow band imaging, capture techniques, accessory equipment, automated processes, and other targeted concepts. Our General Group instructor is Bryan R. Gibson, a lifelong educator and photographer. We also have other speakers, presenting special topics and may often share their experiences and expertise. Many in the Novice Group also attend the general group.

How to Get Involved – If you are interested in joining either one of these groups, please reach out to the astrophotography group leaders on our contact us page.

CSASTRO Imaging Gallery – All of the photos presented in this gallery and throughout our website have been taken by CSASTRO members. We applaud all of those who have submitted images as some are beginners, just starting out in the hobby.
