The Colorado Springs Astronomical Society (CSASTRO) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization of astronomy enthusiasts dedicated to the promotion and advancement of astronomy throughout Southern Colorado. Our membership is diverse in age, education, occupation, astronomical experience, and interests. Some members have formal training in astronomy, but many are beginners who seek to increase their understanding of the heavens. CSASTRO is an established and community engaged organization with over 230 active members and an active public outreach program providing over 100 hours of astronomy programs each year for over 15,000 members of the community.

We are the leading amateur astronomy organization in Southern Colorado.

Monthly Meetings – We conduct monthly membership meetings on the fourth Tuesday of each month in-person at the Space Foundation and virtually via GoToMeeting. Please see the Monthly Meetings page for more information.

Star Parties and Public Outreach – CSASTRO hosts public star parties throughout the Colorado Springs area where members of the community can experience the wonders of the night sky as presented by our experienced and friendly sky guides.  We operate a dynamic and extensive public outreach program managed to provide high-quality educational programs in science and astronomy for our community members.  Our public outreach includes programs in public schools, museums, libraries, and nighttime observing programs throughout the Pikes Peak area serving over 15,000 people each year.  Please see the Calendar page for a list of upcoming events.

RMSS – Mid summer each year we host the Rocky Mountain Star Stare (RMSS) star party for astronomy enthusiasts throughout the region and country. This 4-day family-friendly event includes a variety of speakers, workshops, and activities during the daytime as well as nighttime observing under pristine dark skies. Additional Member Benefits – CSASTRO members are automatically enrolled as members of the Astronomical League and receive their journal “Reflector” quarterly.  CSASTRO members also have access to our inventory of high-quality telescope equipment to borrow as well as a library of reference materials.   CSASTRO membership also entitles you to year-round access to our 35-acre dark sky site in Southern Colorado for personal observing and observing with other members.  These and much more are reasons why you should consider becoming a member of the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society.
