Matt Russell President

Matthew T. Russell (Matt) has been a member of the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society (CSAS) since 2001.  He has held various elected positions within the club:  Member at Large, Vice President and Trustee.  Matt’s vision helped CSAS realize the necessity and need for dark-sky property to both host the Rocky Mountain Star Stare (RMSS) and a place for members to enjoy the night sky throughout the year. Matt’s interest in astronomy was kindled after several astronomy related classes in college and then sparked in the late 1990’s when he received a Meade ETX 90 telescope for a birthday gift.  Since that time, he has become an accomplished and published astrophotographer with images appearing in magazines, science journals, textbooks, the NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day website and corporate advertising material.  Matt lives in Black Forest with his wife Joy, and 3 children, Brandon, Alexandra and Samantha.
