Total Lunar Eclipse event, Garden of The Gods, Sunday, January 20th, 7 PM – 11 PM

Event Details

On Sunday, January 20th there will be a total eclipse of the Moon. Join the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society at the Garden of The Gods Visitor Center in the RV/BUS parking lot to learn about lunar eclipses, why they don’t occur every month, and experience this unique event including views through binoculars and telescopes.

The eclipse begins at 7:36 PM when the Earth’s penumbra (shadow) starts touching the Moon’s face. At 8:33 PM the darker portion of the shadow begins to spill onto the face of the Moon. At 9:41 PM, the Moon will be entirely obscured by the shadow of the Earth. At 10:42 PM, the total eclipse ends and the darker portion of the shadow begins to leave the face of the Moon.

During the hike, the park will be open for hikes, the visitor center exhibits, gift shop and cafe may also be open for extended hours. We are also going to try and see if we can’t have a nocturnal animal touch table out with a naturalist to talk about the creatures of the night.
