Public Star Party – International Astronomy Day; April 21, 8:30 – 10 PM, Garden of The Gods

Event Details

Final update April 21 3 PM:

We are going to give tonight a shot. Show time to set up telescopes has changed to 8 PM with event start at 8:30 PM. I don’t think visitor gates will be open until 8:00 PM. Sorry for the changing times but in collaboration with the GoTG staff we decided to give the skies a little more time to clear and the winds to calm down.

Update 10:18 AM, April 21:

As of this writing we are still a go for tonight. In collaboration with our Garden of The Gods partners, we’re continuing to monitor sky conditions expected for tonight and will make a go/no-go decision around Noon today. As of right now we’re hoping that skies will begin to clear as forecast and we’ll get a chance to view through some holes in the clouds.

UPDATE APRIL 19: Due to weather forecast for Saturday, we have cancelled the daytime solar observing activities but plan to still have the night star party as scheduled. Continue to watch weather forecasts and this site for updates.

Please join Colorado Springs Astronomical Society for International Astronomy day on Saturday, April 21 including a Free-and-Open-to-The-Public Star Party!

We’ll be at Garden of The Gods on April 21 from 8-10 PM to observe the Moon, Planets and the Stars! What a better way to celebrate Earth Day than to spend it in a nationally renowned and beautiful park like Garden of The Gods!

VOLUNTEER INFO: Volunteer telescope setup is 7-8 PM in the RV/Bus parking area. You can park your car next to your telescope if desired. Parking in the volunteer parking area is preferred to maximize visitor movement through the area. We’re expecting 1,000 people.

Each month the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society sets up telescopes in local parks to share the night skies with our community. Come explore your world!

Moon 35% illuminated.

NOTE: As observing is dependent upon weather, please check this calendar listing for any updates/cancellations prior to the event.
